The name of Ren? Gruau has long been synonymous...
The name of Ren? Gruau has long been synonymous with classic beauty, grace, and elegance. Displaying a passionate awareness of human sensuality and possessing a profound ability to create the illusion of form with a minimum of details, Gruau creates seductive works that capture the essence of sophistication. His stunning images of beautiful women and stylish young men radiate qualities of timeless glamour and dramatic visual appeal that have exerted an enduring influence in the fields of art, couture, theater, and fashion of the last half century. Gruau's sense of style is as timely today as when he first translated the fashion designs of Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Elsa Schiaparelli, and Hubert de Givenchy into dramatic visual form in the 1940s and '50s. Born Count Renato Zavagli-Riccardelli, the son of an Italian nobleman, Gruau currently lives and works in Cannes, Paris, and Italy.
"Today, Gruau's women exemplify a style he has consistently expanded?Frequently possessed of a smoldering quality, they strike an isolated pose composed of Gruau's own unique geometry, a contrast of hard blacks and reds. They are technically brilliant, simple, sophisticated and typically Gruau." -Peter Mikelbank, FRANCE Magazine, Spring 1994
