Artist Summary:

Artist Bio:
Kenneth Shotwell

One of America's most versatile artists, Kevin Shotwell was born in Pennsylvania in 1950. Shotwell taught at the Rhode Island School of Design in the early 80's.

He has been internationally exhibited at Art Expo in New York/Los Angeles/Australia, the Machef Art Show in Milan, Italy. Other exhibitions include London and Germany, and the Museum of Art, Science, and Industry in Connecticut. Shotwell's graphic works have also have been distributed and purchased worldwide.

Commissions and corporate collectors include several fortune 500 companies. His works have been exhibited at dozens of galleries, and awards include the 3rd Annual National Excellence Competition, PRINT's Regional Certificate of Design Excellence, and the Award of Distinction from United Technologies Corporation.

Shotwell has been featured in the New York Times and on regional radio and television shows. These appearances have brought exposure to his limited edition graphic works, and they have become highly sought after throughout the United States. Interestingly, Shotwell?s works were acquired by museums, universities, and corporations before he received significant gallery exposure.

Shotwell's paintings typically reflect a mystical quality; a pure, uncluttered vision uniquely his own. Influenced early by Escher and Dali, he exploits the physics of nature with a hint of suspended presence, yet without the somber mood typical of classical surrealism. The viewer is forced to respond intellectually as well as emotionally. His landscapes and cityscapes are particularly dramatic in use of light, shadow and color nuance.

The use of limited spray/masking techniques in combination with traditional brushwork yields a luminous semi-reality. Other multimedia techniques and extraordinarily juxtaposed subjects, hues, and forms, merge in a striking contemporary style.
He has recently merged his talent with the influences of Licako and Nottebohm yielding a succinct yet compelling effect. Surrealism in a random yet controlled style is unique to his work.

Shotwell's versatility in fine art reflects his diverse professional career. He is now president of his own design firm based in his self-designed home/studio
